Buying the wrong sorts of toys for their children is a problem for parents.

Speech therapy sessions that ended with a bag of toys were my son’s favourite part of the experience. While a kid, our son would sit patiently in front of our therapist’s house as she worked one-on-one on his language skills. I kept an eye on her while she worked, hoping to pick up on the names of the “items” she used to assist him. My next stop was Toys R Us, which was where I would almost always leave empty-handed. Batteries-operated games, cartridges, and styluses litter the educational aisle. This is just alarming. An effective teaching tool requires the ability of a youngster to utilise it as a means of asking and answering questions. When it comes to educational toys, the machine asks all the questions.

Multitasking at the crack of dawn

Joint attention skills are needed by early learners instead of focusing just on machines that communicate. These skills will have a direct influence on students’ ability to learn in the classroom, speak out in meetings, and make sense of conflicting ideas and points of view. As an example, consider the workplace: While my division’s director is delivering the report to our team, I’m thinking about it. As soon as he asks me a question, I instantly turn to look at my supervisor, who begins answering it right away. This has caused me to ponder about his words and the opinions of others. Afterwards, I get an idea that shows my employer to be wrong. A colleague who has been gazing at me for a long time and knows what I know is staring back at me. Both of us are using our gazes to communicate our thoughts and emotions, but none of us has said a word. Buying robot dinosaurs in a toy shop, it turns out, is a bad idea.

We are not our toys.

As a speech therapist, I’ve heard that specialty toy shops and therapeutic goods shops are the best places to get high-quality toys. Specialty toys, on the other hand, are meant for children. In the eyes of ASTRA, the industry’s main trade organisation for specialist toys, specialised toys are toys that focus on what a youngster can do rather than what a toy can do

Asking about your toy’s skills is inappropriate.

A toy’s most complicated action is something that parents perform by mistake, and this stops our children from investigating their toys on their own. In reality, this is a major blunder. When my child was a toddler, this speech therapist was a lifesaver. Parents should do the same. She lowered herself on the ground and started passionately kissing him. By offering him just a few pieces, she never made him feel confined. Her descriptions of both his and her own activities established an example of acceptable speech while she spent time with him. She offered him “just the right” tasks when she could see he was ready for more. In addition to being patient and compassionate, she never made me feel hurried. No matter what he did, she would never do anything for him, no matter what. Her patience would not be broken even if he took his time.
